John is experienced in all aspects of General Practice and has particular interests in preventive health and  chronic disease management.

He initially completed a Science Degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry before going on to study Medicine at the University of New South Wales.

After graduating from Medicine, he worked in the Canberra hospital system where he completed his RACGP training and also obtained a Diploma of Obstetrics with the RACOG.

John then moved to Westmead Hospital in Sydney where heeded additional advanced training in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Paediatrics before returning to Canberra to begin his career in General Practice at Gowrie Medical Centre in Tuggeranong.

During the nineties, John developed an interest in the rapidly evolving field of health information technology. He led a number of projects developing software systems designed to improve medication safety in general practice, hospitals and aged care facilities. This software is now used in hospitals across England and New Zealand as well as in Australia. In 2014, he was recognised for this contribution with the awarding of a Fellowship of the Australian College of Health Informatics.

John has been working at Barton General Practice in Canberra since 2013. He enjoys working with children as well as all aspects of Men’s Health, Women’s Health and Aged Care. He is particularly interested in preventive care and chronic disease management, empowering patients to help manage their own health and live a happier and healthier life.

Outside of clinical practice, John enjoys all aspects of a very busy and active family life. He loves living in Canberra and enjoying our many natural and outdoor facilities as well as the many national institutions and other tourist destinations that we are so lucky to have on our doorstep. He is also an avid downhill and occasional cross country skier as well as being a keen sailor.
